Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule?

Schedule your own appointments and search for available tutors based on the courses you鈥檙e currently taking and availability with KSU Navigate. Remember, same day appointments are not available - all appointments must be scheduled at least 18 hours in advance.

How do I cancel or reschedule?
  • To cancel an appointment,鈥痩og in to KSU Navigate鈥痶he same way you did when you made the appointment. Once logged in, find your upcoming appointments to cancel it.
  • If needed, you can鈥痵chedule a new appointment鈥痶he same way you did with your original appointment.
How long is my appointment?

Schedule tutoring sessions are typically 50 minutes. For drop-in tutoring, you may attend for as long as a tutor is available to assist you.

Where are sessions held?

Sessions may be in-person or virtual. Virtual sessions occur through Microsoft Teams 鈥 please use you 蜜桃工作室 log-in when joining. In-person sessions can happen in the CUE, Library, or various residence halls 鈥 be sure to check your appointment in Navigate for specific location information.

When should I schedule?
  • Sessions are available almost every day of the week at a variety of times and locations (including some late-night virtual options!) All appointments must be made at least 18 hours in advance (which means you can鈥檛 schedule a same-day appointment). Check KSU Navigate for the most up-to-date availability.
  • As for when in the semester to schedule 鈥 as soon as you think of it! Don鈥檛 wait for when things get really difficult. Starting sooner can help you stay ahead and on top of your classes. Our tutors not only help with content, but can also help you with study strategies and other skills, so tutoring can help you at any point, regardless of your grade!
How should I prepare?
  • You will get the most out of your session if you come prepared with questions and/or specific concepts that you want to focus on during the session. You should also be attending class regularly 鈥 tutoring can鈥檛 replace actually being in class!
  • Make sure you bring any course materials, notes, and textbooks to your appointment. If your work requires a computer, you will need to bring your own.
How frequently can I meet with a tutor?

We recommend meeting with a tutor no more than two appointments per course per week. This helps to ensure you are not using tutoring to replace valuable class time.

What happens if I miss an appointment.
  • If you miss or cancel an appointment, it鈥檚 always important to reconnect with your tutor to ensure you are prepared for your next session. If you miss鈥痶wo or more appointments鈥痠n a row, a member of our team will reach out to you directly to check in with you and ensure any additional appointments you have scheduled are necessary.

  • Note that a 鈥渕issed appointment鈥 means that you did not cancel your appointment in advance and/or did not show up for your scheduled appointment. We track this and notify you when this happens twice because we want to make sure all students who want to come to tutoring have the opportunity to do so. Notifying us of a cancellation more than 24 hours in advance is important because it opens up that spot for another student. (Remember, appointments can ONLY be made more than 18 hours in advance鈥o if you wait to cancel, you also take away the option for another student to attend that appointment.)

What happens to my appointment if the university is closed?

If the university is closed for a snow day or other unplanned event, all appointments will be automatically cancelled. This will not be held against you. If you receive a message that you 鈥渕issed鈥 an appointment that should have been excused due to a university closure, don鈥檛 be alarmed! We may not be able to update our system in time to prevent the automatic notice from being sent to you, but we will be checking to make sure you won鈥檛 be penalized.

What if no appointments are available?
  • Be sure you are looking at appointments at least 18 hours in advance 鈥 no same day appointments are available.

  • If no available appointments appear -鈥疎ither all the available appointments for that course are full or we don鈥檛 support the course you鈥檙e looking for with scheduled tutoring. For select Math, Chemistry, and Physics courses, drop-in tutoring is available in the Library and a few Residence Halls.鈥Check out our schedule here.

  • Check our to see if we have other support for your course. 鈥疘f you want us to add support for your course, let us know by completing our or reach out to our team at asctutoring@kent.edu and we will do our best to accommodate your request. We also recommend checking with your college to see if they offer tutoring or other support or visiting your professor鈥檚 office hours 鈥 which is a great idea even if you do go to tutoring!

I鈥檓 a student on a regional campus 鈥 where can I find tutoring?
  • Virtual tutoring sessions are open to any student on any campus 鈥 so if you are enrolled in a course we support, virtual tutoring is always an option.

I鈥檓 a graduate student 鈥 can I attend tutoring?
  • Tutoring is designed for undergraduate coursework. For graduate level academic support we suggest connecting with your course instructor, visiting faculty office hours, or utilizing Graduate Academic Coaching (link) for general learning skill development.

Can I use multiple services?

You do not have to choose only one. For example, you might work with a tutor on Chemistry content and stop into a PASS session before a big assignment, all while meeting with an Academic Coach to create a study schedule and prepare for exams.
