Sixty-eight years ago, the ���ҹ����� City Council and mayor dubbed ���ҹ�����, Ohio, the state’s Tree City. This year marks the ninth year ���ҹ����� is being recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus USA program.

���ҹ����� students Nilin Rao, Ph.D., and Craig Verdin, and Exercise Science and Physiology Professor Ellen Glickman, Ph.D., are the co-founders of TheraPod Medical LLC, a wound-care company that is looking to transform the field of podiatric medicine.

���ҹ�����’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its third annual 4.0 GPA Student-Athlete Breakfast on Feb. 2 in the ���ҹ����� Student Center Ballroom Balcony.

Several new and renovated ���ҹ����� buildings received Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) recognition in 2016, bringing to 11 the total number of certified buildings on ���ҹ�����’s campuses. LEED is a rating system that comes from the U.S. Green Building Council. There are four levels of certification: LEED certified, silver, gold and platinum. The projects most recently LEED certified include:

���ҹ����� scholar Melissa Zullo, Ph.D., is all heart, an academic who lives and breathes research, almost literally. Zullo, an associate professor of epidemiology in ���ҹ�����’s College of Public Health, has spent a significant portion of her professional and academic career studying the best practices for helping cardiac and respiratory patients heal.

���ҹ����� held its 15th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. in the ���ҹ����� Student Center Ballroom. This year’s theme was “Testament of Hope: Past, Present and Future of Diversity.” The keynote speaker for the event was David Anderson, D.Phil. He is founder and president of the BridgeLeader Network (BLN), one of the world’s leading authorities on building bridges across the deep divides of race, faith, culture and wealth. 

���ҹ����� students, employees, alumni, donors and community members gathered on Saturday, Jan. 21, in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center) to cheer on the Golden Flashes as ���ҹ����� Athletics launched its new branding and a whole new gameday experience. 

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell today announced the designation of the ���ҹ����� May 4, 1970, Site as a . The site joins more than 2,500 historic places that bear the national distinction.

���ҹ����� will hold its Fall Commencement ceremonies for the ���ҹ����� Campus on Friday, Dec. 16, and Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). ���ҹ����� will confer 2,544 degrees, including 1,773 bachelor’s degrees, 715 master’s degrees, 55 doctoral degrees and one educational specialist degrees.
