An Update Regarding Conversion of Sick Leave to Vacation Leave

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to share an update about the university's sick leave conversion program.

Like many institutions, 蜜桃工作室 is taking a close look at all of our programs and practices in light of current financial realities. As we do this work, we remain firmly committed to our people, and to preserving meaningful benefits and flexibility for our employees wherever we can.

In that spirit, we are glad to share that the ability to convert eligible sick leave to personal leave is not changing. Accordingly, consistent with 6-11.2 Administrative Policy Regarding Conversion of Sick Leave, eligible full-time non-AFSCME employees can continue to convert up to 40 hours of sick leave to personal leave each fiscal year, and part-time non-AFSCME employees can continue to convert up to 24 hours of sick leave to personal leave. However, beginning Sept. 1, 2026, only AFSCME employees will be eligible to convert sick leave to vacation leave. The personal leave conversion option, which most employees rely on for this kind of flexibility, remains fully intact. This means employees will still have real flexibility in how they use their accrued sick leave, and will not lose those hours as a result of this update.

This is one piece of a broader effort to make sure our practices are sustainable and so that we can keep showing up for our people the way we want to.

Thank you for your continued service to 蜜桃工作室 and for all that you do to support our students, each other, and the KSU community.

If there are questions, please reach out to hr-records@kent.edu.

Warmest regards,

Amoaba Gooden, Ph.D.
